I'll never forget the first shoot I did with the extraordinary British model Stella Tennant. It was a prairie-themed editorial shoot by Arthur Elgort for Vogue, and working with Stella felt like the beginning of something special. In fact, the photographs that emerged from that day on the wide open plain would launch my editorial career as a professional makeup artist and my longstanding partnership with the magazine’s creative director, Grace Coddington, as well as with Stella herself. Over the memorable years that followed, we worked together all over the world, from Paris to Los Angeles to New York City, and Stella even welcomed me into her home in Scotland for a shoot. An aristocrat by blood and a bit of a rebel, she was also down-to-earth with a witty, unique sense of humor. I admired her ability to balance her role as a mother of four with a thriving career, juggling it all with grace, conviction, and kindness. The iconic pictures created thanks to her singular beauty and spirit will be remembered by so many. She is a diamond in the industry that has left us too soon.
